About "The White Buses" (7:18 min.)

For one and a half years, the Danes in Theresienstadt have dreamed and spoken of leaving the camp – and returning home. Although no Danish prisoners have been deported from the camp, the feeling of anxiety remains, because no one knows what the future will bring. On April 13, 1945, the Danish prisoners receive a message to meet at one of the camp’s barracks with their belongings. They are leaving Theresienstadt. Birgit, Bjørn, Jytte, Poul, Rachel and Salle wait all night in the barracks, together with their families. They do not believe that they are really going home until they see the caravan of white buses with red crosses painted on them, and with Swedish drivers.
